Sustainable construction alternative: Incinerator bottom ash

Natural mineral building materials such as gravel, sand and crushed aggregates are important raw materials with considerable demand from the construction industry. In Germany, demand per capita and year amounts to more than seven tonnes of minerals for creation of housing or infrastructure projects, for example. Mineral resources are limited and the mining of primary aggregates and construction material is increasingly restricted in the interests of environmental protection. In some regions, supply shortages are already imminent with regard to some aggregate qualities such as sand and crushed aggregates. Therefore, a balanced use of natural and alternative building materials such as GRANOVA incinerator bottom ash (IBA) is a key issue for optimised resource management.
